Education and Training

Stephen Terracciano, PhD, ABPP, graduated Phi Beta Kappa, earning his B.A. with a major concentration in Psychology and a minor concentration in Sociology, from Hofstra University in 1992. Steve Terracciano Headshot He pursued graduate education immediately after completing undergraduate study, and earned his PhD in Combined Clinical & School Psychology from Hofstra University in 2000.

Credentials

Dr. Terracciano has been licensed as a Psychologist in New York State since 2003 and holds a New York State Permanent School Psychologist Certificate, issued 2006. While his doctoral training was predominantly in cognitive-behavioral theory, research, and practice of clinical and school psychology, he pursued credentialing to demonstrate competency in this specialty scope of practice. In 2011, Dr. Terracciano received Specialty Board Certification in Behavioral & Cognitive Psychology, from the American Board of Professional Psychology. In 2021, he became registered for the state of Florida as an out-of-state telehealth provider.

Service to the Profession

In keeping with the Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct, Dr. Terracciano has a long history of pro bono service to the profession and community. He has served varied roles in the field of Disaster Mental Health, including Disaster Mental Health Service Responder for the American Red Cross, Disaster Response Network Member for the American Psychological Association (APA) & New York State Psychological Association (NYSPA), and Co-Chair for NYSPA's Disaster Response Network (2011–2013). In addition, Stephen Terracciano held an appointment as a Consulting Psychologist Supervisor, for clinical psychologists in training at Beth Israel Medical Center's Outpatient Psychiatry Department (2009).

Currently, Dr. Terracciano holds an appointment as Adjunct Clinical Supervisor, Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology, Yeshiva University. In addition, he sits on the Board of Directors, American Board of Behavioral & Cognitive Psychology (ABBCP). As a Board Member for his specialty credentialing association, Stephen serves as Treasurer & Coordinator of Maintenance of Certification. In addition, as an oral exam committee member, he reviews candidate's practice samples, and assesses competencies in the behavioral and cognitive psychology scope of practice.

Work History

Prior to maintaining his full-time private practice, Dr. Terracciano worked in varied settings. He has worked as a staff psychotherapist in a community mental health center, school psychologist for the NYC public schools, staff psychologist for an early childhood 9/11 recovery program (in partnership with the National Childhood Traumatic Stress Network), and staff psychologist and supervisor for adolescents receiving therapeutic foster care services in the South Bronx. Immediately after earning his doctorate and before returning to school and clinical settings, Stephen worked as a human resources and management consultant. He developed and trained staff in the use of performance measurement programs for customer service call centers, and worked as an executive coach and management consultant in the area of leadership development for Fortune 500 and growing companies.

Some of his favorite activities include yoga, biking, skiing, surfing, gardening, cooking, traveling, art exhibitions, music of all genres, dabbling in foreign languages, and positioning himself on rooftop spaces amidst the limitless NYC skyline vistas.
